The roof comes off. In your hands.
Some convertibles fold their top away with a little electric dance. The Aventador S Roadster doesn't. It has two hardtop roof panels made of carbon fiber that you unclip and lift out, and Lamborghini says each weighs less than six kilograms. They store in the front luggage compartment. So yes, the trunk becomes the roof's apartment, and your weekend bag rides on your lap. That's the deal.
When and where
Lamborghini presented the Aventador S Roadster at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) on 6 September 2017. Its press release made a simple claim: it was the only mid-rear-engined V12 super sports roadster. Out of every roadster on sale then, this was the one with a big naturally aspirated V12 behind your shoulders.
The S part
The S is the updated Aventador. Compared with the original, Lamborghini lists:
- 740 CV from the 6.5-liter V12 (about 730 hp).
- A new four-wheel steering system, which Lamborghini says sharpens response at low speed and adds stability at high speed.
- Active suspension and a new EGO drive mode that lets the driver mix and match settings for steering, suspension and traction.
- An active rear wing that changes position depending on the situation.
Lamborghini's numbers for the Roadster: 0–62 mph in 3.0 seconds, top speed 350 km/h (217 mph).
The tiny window you'll love
There's a rear window that drops at the push of a button, even with the roof on. Lamborghini put it there for exactly one reason: so you can hear the V12 better. A car with a dedicated "make it louder" button that isn't the stereo. If you've ever rolled the windows down in a tunnel, this car understands you.
Why it turns heads
Scissor doors up, roof panels out, a V12 you can hear before you see it. The S Roadster has its own rear design, different from the coupé, with an engine bridge running from the back window to the tail. Lamborghini offered a huge range of colors and trims, and launched the car in a color called Blu Aegir.
The one Darin photographed
The red roadster on this card is Darin's photo from Lamborghini Miami, shot with the roof off and parked out front on the lot. Not a render, not a stock photo. We couldn't find a current exact listing for it on the dealer's website when we checked on 21 October 2026, so the photo and button go to their inventory. Price on request.
Who it's for
Darin's take on convertibles like this: the best version might be the weekend version. Rent the sunshine, return the cleanup. Like a boat on vacation, the joy is real and the chamois work is somebody else's job. The owners, meanwhile, are the ones with the warm garage and a separate shelf just for the roof panels.
